If you have decided to write a critical essay, initially, you should think of a critical lens essay outline. This is a review of the whole essay. When it comes to the critical lens essay, a writer needs to respond to every problem that the author actualized in the quote. When there are several problems raised by the quote than a student should analyze each of them separately and specifically.
Main Characteristics of Critical Lens Essay
There are three main characteristics of your paper that you need to pay attention when writing this type of the paper including explanation, analysis, and interpretation. Before writing, it’s very important to create an outline and well think about every problem raised in the quote. Also, before writing, an author should think of identification of literary tools including symbolism, language, themes, style, etc.
When you determine all these aspects, it will help you with writing the paper. Writing a critical essay you are required to provide a reader with the response to the quote and interpretation of this concept on your own.
You should provide a reader with your own opinion on this topic and argue your thoughts. As any other type of the paper, a critical essay consists of three main parts including an introduction, body paragraphs and a conclusion.
Main Components of the Introduction
An essay starts with the introduction containing the quotation. When you are citing the quotation, you need to mention the author and source of the quote. You should formulate a quotation at the beginning of the sentence. Then you should rewrite or rephrase the quotation using your own words.
When it comes to rephrasing, you should formulate the same thought as the writer has reflected in the quotation, but you shouldn’t follow the same order of the words and use the same words as the author has used. Writing this paper, a student should avoid using the first person. You should use the third person.
The main component of the introduction is a thesis statement. Before writing it, you should decide whether you agree or disagree with the author of the quotation. When you are deciding whether this is true or false for you, you can use a brainstorm helping you formulate your own position. Think about which elements of the novel supporting your position.
For instance, if the quotation involves the conflict, you should consider the issue and resolution. The interpretation of the quotation and agreement or disagreement with the author’s position are the foundation of the thesis statement. As the thesis statement includes a lot of important information, you should think of omitting all awkward wording. This allows you to build your thesis statement clearly for the reader not confusing them.
Body Paragraphs Features
In the body paragraphs, you need to mention the author and source of the quotation. Writing body paragraphs, you should repeat your interpretation of the quotation one more time. You can apply literary terms when it comes to the body paragraph. A writer should develop the topic using the terms of the literature to aim the purpose of this type of the essay.
You should also retail briefly the plot of the novel where the quotation is taken from. The purpose of the body paragraphs is to provide a reader with the context. It allows a reader to understand better a quotation you are analyzing.
The last part of the paper is a conclusion. In the conclusion, you provide a reader with the brief summer of all points you have discussed in the previous paragraphs. Also, you need to mention the thesis statement of your opinion on this quotation.
